Je crois que le moins qu'on puisse dire de cette production, c'est qu'elle ne laisse personne indifférent. Et les avis partagés témoignent de l'éventail des façons de voir. Je dois admettre que je suis très perplexe après avoir regardé ce film tourné de façon non conventionnelle. C'est tout le contraire d'un film linéaire sur la vie d'un artiste, de son enfance jusqu'à ce jour. Et dire que j'ai de la musique de Dylan, j'aime ses chansons... que j'ai entendu dans cette production sans pourtant n'avoir rien vu de Dylan, de façon concrète. En quelque sorte, ça m'a un peu frustré. Mais bon, ça été voulu comme ça... une façon subtile de faire connaître Dylan et son oeuvre poétique. Lui-même qui dit ne pas aimer le terme de poète. En résumé, un film bien monté mais qui rate sa cible: 5/10.

Je trouve que ce film est en effet un exercices de style... Ayant fait un peu de recherches je sais que Haynes n'a pas vraiment voulu 'refaire' la vie de Bob Dylan mais de faire ressentir aux gens ce qu'il en a retenu... Ce film il se l'ai produit dans sa tête en écoutant Bob Dylan... Toutes ces facettes sont divers personnalités, réelles ou fictives. On en peut donc pas en apprendre vraiment sur sa vie (moi qui ne suis pas de époque je ne sais pas ce qui est vrai ou faux...) Parce que dans tout ce bordel, il y a une complexité qui me ravie avec des dialogues à deux sens... Moi personnellement j'ai adoré cet aspect très artistique du montage, des dialogues et des personnages en eux mêmes...

Entreprise intéressante, partiellement réussie (l'épisode de Billy le Kid nous a paru un peu faible) de présenter un chanteur sous six angles différents, à six étapes de sa vie, interprété par six comédiens et autant de styles ou de façons de filmer, que ce soit en couleur ou en noir et blanc, dans le but de cerner les multiples facettes d'un artiste plein de paradoxes et de contradictions, non pas tant par fuite de lui-même que par remise en question de ce qu'il est au fur et à mesure qu'il évolue dans sa vie sentimentale ou avance dans sa carrière musicale, de sorte qu'à la fin ne se dégage aucune explication unique d'un comportement ni de vérité principale du personnage, juste un kaléidoscope d'images qui se bousculent et s'entrechoquent sous nos yeux, le tout entremêlé d'extraits d'actualités, de chansons, de poèmes de Rimbaud et d'autres références cinématographiques, ce qui nous donne à voir un film exemplaire dans sa démarche, par moment déstabilisant, d'autre fois irritant, mais toujours dans la ligne de son sujet lequel, comme le titre l'indique, n'est jamais là où on croit, mais toujours ailleurs où l'on pense.

Que la structure du film soit originale et que le personnage de Bob Dylan soit difficile à saisir on est d'accord. Cela n'empêche que c'était pas très réussi et nous laissait froid: aucun des acteurs jouant Dylan n'est touchant ou profond. Kate Blanchett a beau être une bonne actrice, je voyais tout le temps un visage de femme et cela me dérangeait beaucoup. Tout ce qui sauve le film ces sont les chansons extraordinaires de Dylan.

Wow. En tant que fan de Dylan, je dois dire que ce film m'a renversée. Comment permettre aux spectateurs de saisir un personnage aussi insaisissable? Je n'ai aucune idée de la manière choisie pour l'écriture de ce film, mais c'est comme une tonne de brique. Chaque détail est réfléchi avec soin et quelques clins d'oeil très intéressant sont faits à ce chanteur folk si mystérieux. À voir. Absolument!!

Dylan a approuvé! Approuvé quoi? Que la personnalité a plusieurs facettes qu'elle se modifie via les expériences au fil du temps qui passe, que l'on ne peut être totalement connu ou se connaître? Que que que... Le mythe continue (the show must go on)mais j'aurais aimé qu'en plus d'autoriser sa bio Monsieur Zimmerman nous laisse approcher son coeur, sa tête on la connaissait. Je connaissais que peu la musique de Dylan et rien de sa vie et je dois avouer que ce film ne m'a pas aidé à mieux le connaître. Film confus et long. Avoir su je serais peut être allé le voir avec sous-titre français. J’ai quitté après 2 heures, j’en pouvais plus. Kate Blanchett et le tournage en noir et blanc sont sublime ce qui m’empêche d’évaluer le film à 1. Film pour les inconditionnelles de Bob Dylan.

J'ai été voir ce film puisque 10 minutes du film sont tourné ici en banlieue de Montréal a Rawdon. Tous la partie ou joue Richard Gere dans le village de Riddle a été tourné a Rawdon. Je dois mentionné par contre que cette partie du film m'a déçu puisque Richard Gere n'est pas le meilleur acteur pour interpréter Bob Dylan. Je suis cependant ravit du fait qu'une partie du film a contribuer a faire rouler l'économie québécoise. Il est évident que Kate Blanchett est de loin la meilleur actrice pour incarner Bob à tous les niveau. Le film comporte plusieurs scènes qui ne se suivent pas mais qui représentente différente aspect de la vie de Mr Dylan ; il faut être ouvert d'esprit et s'attendre a un film pas comme les autres qui peut porter a confusion comme l'artiste lui même. Bref, je recommande ce film de répertoire a tous pour l'audace du réalisateur et du producteur ainsi que pour la performance de Kate Blanchett. Ce film fait changement des films d'actions américain banal sans fondement.

J'ai lus, dans les critiques précédantes, Je pense que c'est en effet pour les fans "hardcore" de Bob Dylan... sinon, c'est d'un ennui mortel... long... mais looong": c'est totalement faux. Je ne suis pas un fans de Dylan, je ne connais que quelques-uns de ses morceaux, cependant j'ai été grandement impressioné et captivé par ce film, autant pour l'histoire, que pour les acteurs ou que pour la narration décousue. Fan ou non de Bob Dylan, vous devez voir ce film.

L'ego de Bob Dylan, ce n'est pas intéressant. Le film est présenté comme un portrait tellement égocentré sur sa petite personne d'homme caméléon qui ne se regarde que le nombril et ne vit que par sa propre confusion que l'on s'ennuie tout le long. Le style du récit se veut inventif, mais c'est de l'inventivité pour pas grand'chose. Il n'y a aucune générosité dans ce film. On ne trippe pas avec lui.

Pour apprécier le film, il faut garder cela en esprit: Il ne s'agit pas d'une biographie. Vous ne saurez pas plus de Dylan en sortant de la salle que quand vous y êtes entrés. Pire, vous vous poserez encore plus de question à son égard. D'ailleurs, cette approche originale et déconcertante pour certains fait l'intérêt même du film. Au lieu de suivre une progression classique de l'histoire, le réalisateur a préféré relater des impressions, ce qui le rend plus fidèle à l'esprit du chanteur. Je ne suis pas une fan et connaît très mal son histoire (à part les bouts où il croise les chemins des Beatles et de Edie Sedgwick) Pourtant, le film m'a énormément touché. Bien que sans intrigue, il se maintient selon une logique propre. Et d'ailleurs, il tout aussi intéressant à voir considérant la palette d'acteurs remarquables qu'il emploie. Blanchett est sublime, bien sûr, mais il faut aussi surveiller Bale et même Gainsbourg, qui était d'une incroyable sincérité ici.

J'aime bien Dylan sans cependant être un vrai fan. Je fus attiré par une cote (sic) professionnelle ( 4 étoiles) à mon avis exagérée. Certains personnages sont attachants mais l'histoire est beaucoup trop confuse et les scènes s'enchainent souvent de manière incompréhensible. Je serai plus prudent à l'avenir quant aux cotes accordées à un film présenté à ce cinéma.

Un pur délice du début à la fin. Je me disais durant le film (comme dans la pub): 'Je ne veux pas que ça arrête'. Même si je n'ai pas suivi à la trace toutes les phases de la vie (toutes les vies)de Dylan, je ne me suis jamais senti perdu durant tout le film. Un film qui raconte toute une époque (américaine des années 60-70), donc la nôtre) en milliers de flashes comme elle l'était somme toute. Et la musique... et Cate Blanchet (wow).. je me répète: un pur délice.

Étant un film pour les connaisseurs de Dylan, I'm Not There se voit aussi comme un portrait éclaté et purement délicieux d'un homme mythique. Les six acteurs ont une présence incroyable en incarnant des aspects différents de la vie complexe de Dylan. Probablement un des films qui témoigne de l'aboutissement de l'ère du vidéoclip: sa formule reste la plus dynamique... Bref, la puissance du film, même si l'on se croise pas callé sur Dylan, et l'ingéniosité de Todd Haynes font de ce film un quasi-chef d'oeuvre! Si vous pensez aller le voir, assurez-vous de louer No Direction Home (Scorcese), Don't Look Back (Pennebaker) et Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (Peckinpah) et 8 1/2 (Fellini) pour maximiser votre compréhension des clins-oeil (et ça ne fait pas mal de voir ses autres films hautement agréables)

Très bon film. Évidemment il ne faut entrer dans la salle avec l'idée en tête que vouz allez visionnez la bio de Bob. Vous sortirez confu, voir troublé. Non, laissez- vous amuser par la musique, les images et l'originalité. Le saut d'une personnalité à l'autre rend le film parfois mêlangeant mais, dans l'ensemble, vous aurez une meilleur idée de l'imaginaire Dylan (si c'est possible!)

Les fans comme moi vont adorer. Je connais très bien la vie artistique et personelle de Dylan. Ceux qui ne le connaissent pas beaucoup vont trouver le film difficile à comprendre je crois. Cate Blanchett est excellente! On voit Richie Havens! Le réalisateur raconte des faits vécus d'une façon tordue avec beaucoup d'imagnation et de créativité. Mais encore là, faut déjà connaître les faits vécus pour pouvoir faire le lien. Allez sur You Tube avant de voir le film, écoutez les conférences de presse et les clips inédits sur Bob Dylan...

Confus, long et ridicule, sauf la musique, rien ne vaut la peine, seul Bob peut possiblement comprendre ce qui se passe dans ce semblant de film. C'est impossible que ce film ait été coté 4 étoiles et demi dans la gazette!!!? Cinéphile depuis au moins 30 ans, et aimant les films de tout genre et compliqué, celui-ci n'est que déception, je n'ai pas pu le supporter plus d'une heure, je suis partie et 3 autres personnes sont également sorties au même moment... Ça en dit long... À vous de juger.

Je me suis posé pendant tout le film la question : est-ce que c'est moi qui suis trop idiot pour comprendre ou ce qu'il dit n'a pas de sens? En tout cas trop rapide pour bien comprendre le fond de sa pensée. Que représente sa première vie qu'il n'a pas vécu d'un enfant black ou sa dernière vie d'homme reclus aussi très éloigné de la réalité? Bob Dylan n'est pas mort et est toujours actif! Ce long film ne renseigne pas vraiment sur sa vie car on ne sait pas trop à quel moment l'action se déroule et si c'est une allégorie ou la réalité.
