This movie would be nothing without the 3D effects. The creatures were really cool.

I saw this movie in theater LONG time ago and I'm writing a review about it now because I still don't understand what the hype is all about... yes... it's visually pleasing and the CGI is very well done. However, the plot was horrible and EXTREMELY predictable. The storyline was very Disney and cliche.

WOW! This is one of the movies the most rated, I thought Jake was only a tiger, but I watched it at the cinema and I loved it. I laughed 60 % of the time.

The CGI special effects are innovative and ground breaking and that's why this movie is great and what it will to be remembered for. The storyline is a repeat of many "Disney like" story lines so to me that's a bit disappointing considering everything else. However, it remains entertaining enough even though Hollywood continues to redo the same story a million different times.

Avatar is better than Titanic big time, I thought it would get poor reviews, but actually now it's the grossest movie of all time (for now)

The writing is adequate as the storyline, aside from its geography, is hardly groundbreaking. However, there is nothing dumb, or terribly weak in the writing, though perhaps the tongue in cheek military leader might rub some folks the wrong way as being ridiculous, but all in all, it's a logical breakdown of human greed and selfishness put to amazing, absolutely, undeniably, stunning and sensational graphic detail. Visually, to date, no movie is its equal. The technology applied to the film was spectacular. Without the big screen, and big sound, I'm not sure it translates nearly as well on a home system, but it would still be first class. In the theater, this movie was the single best cinema experience I have ever had!

Now this is what movie experiences should be like. This is by far the best 3D movie ever made. Spectacular CGI and action sequences. This was a long movie but felt quite fluid without getting boring. Not the most original story line but non the less a great movie. If you haven’t yet seen Avatar than you must live under a rock. In which case I feel bad for you.

Despite the brilliant use of special effects and beautiful cinematography and use of the 3D camera, which is all James Cameron is good at, what does Avatar have that makes it so amazing? The story was nothing special, the characters weren't that developed, the acting was average, and writing was not beautiful. Avatar is raved, and way overrated. The special effects are the only reason this movie is any way attractive to people. It was visually captivating, I'll have to admit that, but it just wasn't that good of a movie. I knew this wouldn't win best picture in the academy awards because all it has is visuals. All 3 of it's oscars were cinematography, special effect, and some editing award only because that's the only thing that Avatar really delivers. Everything else is fluff, and doesn't dazzle. Way overrated, and is not as good as people say.

The first time I saw this movie, I would have given it a 9/10. It was really impressive on a movie screen. Less so on my tv, but still well made and worth watching. The story itself is a bit simplistic though...

Avatar was a good movie due to graphics and sound however it felt like a typical fairytale story. Good storyline but just way too predictable in the ending and such but that is what people want to see. See it if you enjoy graphics and simple story lines. :) One last thing, would be so much better if it wasn't so long!

This movie is a Must-See. It's beautiful story, amazing effects and breathtaking nature. My friends kept watching it couple of times, standing in a long long lines on the street. For me, this movie was little too long, therefore I rate it with "9".

4 years of designing this incredibly groundbreaking visual, James Cameron has proven that he can still create some of the most unique visuals of our time. However, Avatar may be an outstanding visual, it's nearly not as spectacular as it's been raved. The 3D was undeniably amazing, but the film had various flaws. No, it wsn't the greatest film of the year. It was predictable, it's a story that we've seen many times, and overall the film does not raise the bar like I was expecting. Avatar is no masterpiece, it was just a well-done visually-entertaining film that was special for it's effects, but that's it. Enjoy it for it's astounding visual effects, but don't expect to be blown away.

It's an 11/10 for visual, no complaints on the acting, the story was sort of basic overall, but I think that was a good thing here because the absolute magnitude of the visuals is shocking. It just changed the new standard for sci-fi and fantasy, its in its own category.

Best in 3D! I've seen it in Digital 3D and in regular projection and the movie gives you an entirely different aspect. The story reminded me of Pocahontas, where the american (i think he was american) had to join the natives tribe while his company needed him to make the natives leave their area for a gold mine or something... But the experience I got while watching it in 3D was just amazing... Very good movie, made me sad at the end because I wanted more.

The movie that changed the entertainment industry. The movie that set the bar for 3d excellence. Movies, and now television begin a new era.

Personally I didn't like this movie very much. However I'm not a sci-fi fan, the visuals were okay. However I would strongly recommend star trek it has a much better plot than avatar and all around better acting.

One of the best movies of our generation, even though I didn't see it in 3d it was magnifacent. The animation was ahead of everthing else. The ending was predictable but everything inbetween was amazing. I highly recomend this for teenagers and anyone older. Not for young viewers!!!

This has to be the best movie I have ever seen!!! It was beautiful and to the point... Man needs to stop destroying everything he touches because of his greed. I was on the edge of my seat through the entire movie and even though some of it was prdictable I want to see it again. The acting was very good and cinematography was awesome. It is like nothing you have ever seen before.

This is the WORST movie I have ever seen in my life. People were going to ga-ga over it, so I dutifully sat through the whole thing, but I wish I hadn't! Even one of my companions fell asleep during the movie, and I woke her up. When it was over and we left the theatre, all she could do was complain that we woke her up! It was overblown, the characters were corny cliches, the main character's "video log" thing drove me CRAZY, the hour (or so) long battle seen was a big explosive waste of time that hurt my eyes, and the list goes on and on. I cannot BELIEVE that people liked this so much.

Predictable and corny, quote from film "fight terror with terror" did george w. bush write the script for this film? I feel dumber after watching this film. Total waste of money!

People hate seeing themselves as a mirror image of the past, but man is what he is, greedy. For those who think Cameron is copying on the lines of other stories, I guess the truth hurts. I loved this movie and recommend this for all ages, even though it shows the truth of mans greed. I hope one day man will learn instead of continuing a life of hate, greed and killing for what they call god.

It isn't the worst movie I've ever seen, but Cameron doesn't know how to tell a story. Never mind the incredibly cliched dialogue, the extremely poor character development... what bothered me most about this film was the fetishization of Native culture. In his attempt to write something that speaks to postcolonialism or anticolonialism, Cameron completely caricatures, even unintentionally parodies, Native culture. It was a silly analogy to create, and one he wasn't able to do well, to the point that it just made the entire movie fall flat.

MY GOD people the only thing this movie has going for it is the effects that's why at the oscars it didn't win best movie or director... the story is essentially an updated Pocahontas.
