I was upset with this movie as I had higher expectations but oh well. Consolation great cast and crew. Richly done but again missing something.

Good graphics, good plot, good movie. My whole family would have rated it 10 out of 10. It was very good how they made the movie look like its in the 40's.

This movie was such a waste of time! I regreted it even though I saw it on TV. OK, the plot is already horrible not to mention the crappy fighting scenes. Worst sci-fi ever made! The story was confusing some things just make no sense. Do NOT watch this movie. It has no point.

This movie was ok. I had to watch it during class for the project we had to work on later on. The story good of been better but the special effects were so crappy!!! Some parts were really long and boring but others really interested me!!! Um... Gweneth Paltrow and Jude Law were awesome.

Like most sci-fi flic fans, I had many expectations for this movie, however I was generally disappointed. The "special effects" to me came off quite sloppy and the story line a bit too ordinary. But that's my opinion. Some of my friends enjoyed the movie and were impressed by the cinematography.

I loved this movie. It exceeded my expectations. I great adventure movie kind of a India Jones meets James Bond. I thought it was very creative and like the setting.

Some plot holes, but very entertaining. Visually and cinematically different with a black look.

A wonderful retro romp through the cliches and motifs of the 40s. Superb period acting by Paltrow - but don't expect a 1990s style re-write, modernizing attitudes- she plays it straight. I hadn't seen the trailers- just a few posters- and so wasn't expecting Jolie. Yes, she looks good in black leather- but we knew that- she provides a good counterpoint to Paltro. Jude Law was acceptable as Sky Captain- but didn't have the screen presence of an Indiana Jones. The special effects ranged from mind boggling through to cheesy- odd mixture. One skeleton in particuluar looked no better than any hack could render on a low- end PC in a few hours. Lighting and artwork are worth the price of admission alone. The movie pays homage to a great many pulp comic styles and motion picture landmarks. I then watched Casablanca- and Paltrow's character held up well against Ingrid Bergman's Ilsa- although without the depth that the serious drama offered. I'm not really surprised at the negative reviews- given the high ratings on here for the pieces of light weight CGI extravaganzas that most summer action blockbusters are. I think it is a case of mismarketing- I walked out of the theatre stunned and in a we of the movie- but I can see how for many younger viewers the stylized presentation would detract from the action. Still- even as a straight ahead action flick it holds its own. Want action AND psychological complexity? Go see 'Hero'. If you can read without moving your lips.

[...] The one good thing I can say about this movie is the graphics are good. Not great cause the picture is "fuzzy" all the way through (gives it a bad 50's feel) I don't know what happened, but normally Jude and Gwyneth are much better actors than that. Oh! Also let us note crappy storyline and script. Maybe 5 year olds will like it. [...]

Previews were great! But movie was not at all what we expected! Story is more than ordinary. If you want to watch an oldy and don't care about the story, go a head. We couldn't wait for the movie to finish.

I spent the first half of this movie wondering what I'd gotten myself into (was outvoted by my husband) - but after awhile, got into the whole feel of it and started to enjoy myself. For those contemplating going - its an adult fantasy set in the 40's, with a mix of Indiana Jones-like action, Jurassic Park and Star Trek sci-fi wonder. Clear? The point of the movie is to stoke our imagination (get in touch with our 'inner child'... ) while poking fun at the 40's stereotypes. Like how Gwyneth's character Polly refuses to ditch her stilettos - even in the most treacherous conditions! It also gives us romance 40’s style – that means female antagonist vs. Stoical male and no sex! It actually is fun if you relax and just enjoy the silliness of it. It’s also an interesting view of what 40’s ‘futurama’ would be like. Definitely a 'safe’ date flick that guys would enjoy – and gives something to talk about..

I liked the intertwining of old vs. New scenes and technology. But one thing that really bothered me throughout the movie was Gweneth's weak role and cheesy lines. She was portrayed as a whiney little screw up tagging alongside Sky Captain, pining for his measly affections while he was ignoring her. If they're going to take the new and incorporate it into the old, at least include women's equality into the mix! At least Angelina was spared and had command of a flying ship and rockets!

That movie for me was all about ambiance and environment. You really feel in another world/time reminding me the Japanese animation Metropolis. The best word to describe the movie is 'different' and that why I liked it even tough the story wasn't that wonderful. If you liked the preview you will love the movie..

The people who are giving bad reviews here can't appreciate what was being recreated in this film. It's a Pulp Serial brought to the blue screen. Keep that in mind and you'll love it. Sure, the acting's a bit stiff compared to modern standards, but it's pretty dead-on to the style in the 30s and 40s (with a modern polishing)

It sucked, it was a bad tv movie from the 50's. If I wanted to see a bad 50's sci fi I would dig through the crappy old movies in the back of the video store, that they cant pay someone to rent. I wouldnt recomend this one, unless you're an old dinosaur who doesnt realize there has been technological advances to movie industry in the last 50 years.

Ok, personnally I did not think that this movie was very good. Not that I am saying completely, there were some good parts. I didn't particularly think that the acting was up to snuff and thought that they could have done a much better job. I also didn't like the way it was filmed, it started to give me a headache part way through. I think that if you used to watch the old time shows like this you would like it, but the youth might not.

I took my 6yr old son to see it. It was worth seeing with him as we had some interesting discussions about it afterwards, regarding what was real, and what wasn't. If you are an adult, make sure you take a child with you to fully appreciate it. Well worth seeing.

I don't understand people who give it 1 or 2, what did you expect from this movie? Just take a look at the title! The point of this movie was to recreate the feeling of the first comic books ever created. This was achieved admirably. The effects are great and one can have a few chuckles as well-known stereotypes from the old days pop up here and there. Just remember, it was intentional, even the corny dialog. This was an awesome experience and I recommend it to anyone.

Just came home from seeing Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow and my first impression is disappointment. What can you say about the movie? Obviously the CGI (Computer-Generated Imagery) for the non-nerds out there, is amazing and to die for... but there is something missing. You can make a link with this movie and dating... for example if you meet a nice blond who has every ass... ets you may want but does not have all the intelligence to continue into a human conversation, it doesn't take long before the relationship (if there is one for that matter) gets old. The story is somewhat interesting but when the credits roll up the screen all I felt was disappointment. I was expecting so much more of this movie... and it got me frustrated and well to the point where I had to write my review right after viewing the movie. So does the movie bring anything else than the nice graphics? It brings courageous actors who had to work in front of the blue screen for the majority of the movie. Jude Law, who once again, tries to become a household name and I don't think he found it. I then searched the dictionary to find the perfect word to describe Gwyneth Paltrow's role. Irk: To make weary, irritated, or bored. That sounds perfect, she did use all of my patience (weary), she also provoked impatience and anger (irritated) and god knows I was bored with her by the end of the movie. Paltrow plays the T-Y-P-I-C-A-L female role of movies from the era, you know the ones where they could not think straight without having the man by her side, or the role of being damsel in distress. The movie is pure and simple eye candy... It will be remembered as Final Fantasy is rememberd as being the first movie that used CGI graphics throughout the whole movie... Wait a minute, there is a Final Fantasy movie?

All style, little substance. The effects (CGI) weren't all that good (Was it intended? ) Good for young children (cartoonish), barely acceptable for an adult. A definite "suspension of disbelief" flick.

This movie is a Saturday afternoon comic book story. All those over 40 should understand that. It's not suppose to make the same kind of spoon fed sense that the newer movies give. Bring some imagination to this one folks, it helps make it a pretty good tale.

It's called the willing suspension of disbelief. If you can manage that trick, you'll like the movie. If you wonder how a WW11 single engine fighter plane (what was that anyway? A Thunderbolt? ) can fly non-stop across the ocean then you may not enjoy the film. Yeah, they borrowed from several others, but so what. It was fun.

The retro 1930s futuristic as well as the desaturated blur effect made this movie stand out from others, along with the stylized antenna transmissions and grid lines on the oceans. Very well done and an interesting idea.

Just for the different film editing, you could enjoy this show. It was a "nice day out" but not a great show. More special FX would have been better. Enjoyable but certainly not great. Gee, I wish Paltrow could actually act!

Awesome movie. The plot was childish and didn't make sense at time, but I went to see it for the effects. They did a good job of making it feel 1930's. The ending is really... well the ending is really cool. This movie was a lot like Atlantis, infact it was the same thing. 1930's, huge machines that we haven't invented yet, childish plot, etc. So If you enjoyed Atlantis, go check this out.

A brilliant take on the old motion picture serial. It recalls the 192-30's Art Deco style while relating a futuristic scene. It is a bold experiment - with a story line straight out of the old serials (not great - just lots of action) Let's hope we see a sequel soon.

It is different from other movies. In the beginning, it's hard to understand, to put the pieces together, but after 20 - 30 minutes, the pieces of the puzzle start getting together and you can enjoy the movie. The scenes are not so frightening. It is ok for a young kid around 9-10 years old.

The trailer looked so cool. But I was totally disappointed 10 minutes into the movie. The movie not only looks as if it was a movie from the 30s, everything seemed to be as if from the 30s!!! It is funny at times. So if you are going to see it as a comedy, ok. But don't go see it as a sci-fi movie...

The acting was cardboard and cliche. The visuals were impressive and gives a glimpse as to the future of CGI, but the story and action do not live up to the hype. At no time did I feel concern or excitement for the characters during the action sequences.

Incredible visual style. Great chemistry between Paltrow and Law with Angelina Jolie providing a very sultry point to the love triangle. Giovanni Ribisi was outstanding as Sky Captain's "Scotty." The director clearly knows his movies and the many quotes of other pictures from War of the Worlds to Star Wars were excellent. I've wanted to see this movie from the first trailer and I was not disappointed.

Brilliant in its own genre - Comic Book Movie. Everything about the movie is loyal to comic books: Visual themes, editing, characters and even the script (spoken lines could be in those pointed bubbles. ) Truly unique motion picture. However, perhaps it's not for everyone.
