An alright movie, needed a little more depth to the plot and characters.

Warning: if you watch this movie, it is 113 minutes of your life that may never be recaptured. The "style" (and I use that term with great reservation) is all over the map. The odd CSI-type moments are oddly out of place: perhaps a failed and hilarious attemp to add logic, coherence and credibility to the scenes? Not the worst movie ever, but possibly the worst edited. Okay, we enjoyed this movie even though it was pretty hokey and unbelievable in parts. Also, the character of the airplane design engineer was not as dislikeable as they wanted us to believe. We actually thought he should have been in charge! Anyway, I would recommend it for entertainment value. As long as you don't have high expectations, it's enjoyable.

The opening scenes carry the whole movie. The rest is long, drawn out and the dramatic moments all seem forced. It takes place in the desert, yet, nobody ever sweats! Very unrealistic. No suspense what-so-ever.

Wait for this film to come out on CD or EVEN Video (which shouldnt be too long) Miss the first 20 mins and you've missed the film. Dennis Quaid couldnt act to save his life and the rest of the cast- except for the pretty boy who as usual gets killed off almost immediately-are absolutely terrible. [...]

I really liked this movie. It had my attention from beginning to end and the cinematography was excellent. Only a couple odd moments, like the one character who fell and got lost? Where was this hill he fell off of? And I agree, there was little character development, but with so many characters, I feel it would have drawn out this film and I was more interested in the shear sequence of events. I really enjoyed this movie, I have still have the camera shots in my head (the one wandering in the desert dying of thirst, the guy getting shot in slow-mo by the nomads, Rabisi shooting the nomad... ) I highly recommend this. I have not seen the original, but I still feel this film was well executed. Shear enjoyment, nothing more nothing less. Take it as it is. Enjoy.

What a great movie! Action packed and great special effects. Most realistic plane crash I ever saw in a movie.

Well, I honestly did not expect much... and I... well... did't get much. Not a terrible movie, but not a great one either. If you are... maybe... a Quaid fan... just wait for it to come out on DVD..

While the actors are ok, there's nothing special about this movie. Actually we already can predict that some characters dies and we already know the very predictable end that the rest all survived to get to fly on the Phoenix... hourray!

While I have never had the pleasure of seeing the original film, I must say opening scenes, the play-up to the eventual crash and music showed a lot of promise. From there, however Hollywood once again let 'the altruistic janitor' finish the script. Such sad disappointment when Ribisi's character; who comes across as a cross between Stather Martin, (Cool Hand Luke-1967), and some Aryan geek that is sorely lacking in self-confidence, forces the only back-boned character, (Dennis Quaid), to apologize and get on with the finishing work on the plane. What rubbish! I felt like uttering - [...] In addition to many glaring lack of detail shots; the young guy falling down and becoming lost when in all other shots of their site he would have to have walked some ways to find a down slope, the brand new stainless steel Langoustino sauce pan at the back of the 'nomads' tent... et al. And for Miranda Otto who came of such success with the Lord of the Rings movies - she was about the only glimmer of true character in the movie. Very poor indeed.

I liked this movie. It was a toned down movie with the extremely intense character played by Giovanni Rabisi. I liked the bit before the ending when the engineer's true self is revealed. The bit with the "nomads" was stupid though.

I read the book in the sixties, and I must say they put in a lot of stuff that did'nt exist in those times, ( like cellphones, e-mail and modern radio and music) Also there was no Lady mentioned in the book, or a band of assasins. Finaly, I found the book story moore interesting. Beside all that, the it was quiet entertaining.

An OK movie if you have an evening where your options are limited... silly in places... very good in others... if you go in not expecting much, you won't be too disappointed...

The Flight of the Phoenix is falsely advertised. This is by no means an action movie. However, it is still entertaining and surpassed all my expectations. 75%.

I thought this movie was fun, but since I never saw the original, I can't saw if it was better or not. Certainly the characters were interesting but with such a large cast, it's impossible for each of them to show too much depth. Ribisi was great and Quaid was his usual tough guy self (would you have him any other way? ) Still I had loads of fun...

Could have been better, not much of a story, but at least you've got to see Dennis Quaid bare chest and full of sweat so it wasn't that bad after all!

Because I am a die-hard fan of the old movie with James Stewart, I had to go and see the remake to see if they capturred the suspense of the original. I enjoyed it, but have to say that I remain in favour of the original. The plot was more concise in the 1965 version;the special effects were minimal in the original, but considering it was filmed 30 years ago, it was very well done. The modern version needed a lot of hoopla and fanfare and loud music to try and keep the viewer riveted to the edge of their seat. It really didn't work for me. Quaid (though an excellent actor) did not manage to portray Frank Towns for the "disillusioned with life" person that Jimmy Steward managed to portray. The presence of a female actress in the new version added some feminine wiles to try and carry the script. The old movie didn't need it as the characters all portrayed their desperation so very well. I suggest you rent the original and be the judge for yourself.

An above average adventure movie with a good taut script and excellent character interactions. There are always cliche's in a movie of this sort but this film gives a good lesson in which one's to avoid - it would have been too easy to have this film degenerate into a love-romantic interest between Dennis Quaid and the lone female (Miranda Otto) - but this does not happen and therefore the movie stays on course.

I think it was entertaining, and to those who say that the situation is improbable... what would you say about Star Wars? It's a movie, maid to entertain you... want real things... go see a documentary. Back to the film. The quality of the computer images were very good, especially when the man flies out of the plane. Jumped out of my chair a couple of times and Giovanni's caracter got on my nerves a bit (didn't had much to say and had some social problems) The story was captivating and though I was expecting a happy ending, it didn't stop me to think they were gonners at some points. Overall, go see it, but don't pay the full price.

Well I loved Giovanni R? He was absolutely psyhco it was great. My fav scene is when he shoots the guy with the gun and says what he says. My major problem with this movie was more logic. These guys are supposed to be stranded in a dessert where nobody can surivive without supplys (yet the entire army of assasins can survive without any problems) hmmm! But if you can watch a movie and avoid the logistics of it then its an good couple hours of entertainmet.

The first 15 minutes of this movie are worth the price of admission alone for its direction, feel and ability to make spit out sand like you are there in the desert. This is an ensemble cast and even though there are only a handful of people they manage to make it a mixed breed of humanity and personality. Unlike the original, this time around they have added a woman to the team but unfortunately her role is useless (among a few other roles that are useless as well) That being said, there is hardly a dull moment especially with the talented Giovanni Ribisi on board. This is a good action/disaster/ensemble piece and kept me entertained without feeling too “american”..

This movie is just that... a movie... pieces put together that is called a movie. You know the end already from the reviews. The rest is padding and less eventful. Not alot of character development. T. V. Like performances and scene changes. No reality tied into story. Simple plot for target audience. Not the right role for Dennis Quaid. If you really must see it wait until you can buy the DVD. Otherwise forget it!

HAHAHAHA, watch the trailer, it'll show you the entire movie pretty much instead of wasting 10 bucks. Please stop giving Giovani Ribisi credit, I normally don't mind him but his character was annoying, why was he there again? Nobody knows, he just showed up. Oh, and Quaid... why did you become a sniper halfway through during the worst action scene EVER! Have fun!

Never saw the orginal but intend on getting it after seeing this one. The shots of the desert are outstanding. The storm effects very well done. I love the story. I did not predict that Giovanni turned out to be someone quite different. (dont want to give it away for people reading the reviews. ) I thought Giovanni played his role quite well. Quaid appeared to be a predictable role. He didnt add anything special to his part. The others were just passengers. None of them really had any inspiration to make this movie a 10. The director could have made a much better movie with a storyline like that. But I still got my money's worth and I was entertained. Remember movies are to entertain you.

Was expecting to see an "average" entertaining film. Very disappointing. Poorly written, disjointed dialogue. Underdeveloped characters with the exception of Giovanni Ribisi. Little to no suspense. Haven't seen the original version, nothing about this one made me want to. Dennis Quaid was awful and he's one of my faves usually.

Doesn't do the original justice but for first timers it should be a good flick. The little toy plane designer is STILL bloody irritating which perhaps make his character a good one. After seeing the original you have think that everything in this one is predicable. It follows the original fairly closely so only the special effects are a surprise.

Good movie, I enjoyed it. Good cinemetography and special effects, made it all the more enjoyable. Haven't seen the original, but I bet this movie is different in a lot of movie-making respects. I dunno, see it, but don't plan on it blowing your mind... basically, I enjoyed myself, but you have to be in the right mood.

I count the original 1965 Flight of the Phoenix as one of my favourite movies of all time so I might be a little biased in my review. However, I found this version to be quite passable! True, it's some 35 minutes shorter than the original but I think they do the story justice. Quaid is quite good as Frank Towns. Although not as jaded as James Stewart's character, his acting portrayed the character well. What I found that I missed in this version is Richard Attenborough's performance as Frank Town's navigator/partner. That story is completely left out in this version but if you haven't seen the original, you won't miss it. The supporting cast also worked well and Giovanni Ribisi was perfectly cast as the mousy and irritating... well, I don't want to spoil anything for anyone! As for cinematics and effect, the storm and crash scenes were spectacular! The desert cinematography was equally good and visually speaking this film was defininately up to par. As a side note, I also have to mention that the musical score for the film was excellent! The opening credits running to Johnny Cash's "I've Been Everywhere" really set the tone and it just kept going from there! All in all, I found this an entertaining and enjoyable film. I give it my recommendation!
